The rights paid from Singtel for next 3 season of EPL was $400 Million. Singtel claim consumers will not be paying anything more than what they are paying now but that is when you are watching over EPL. If you loves all kinds of sports like Formula 1, Tennis, Golf, Cricket etc... then the cost of payment shall be differernt. A package is still being worked on at the current moment & details shall be released on later date.

Who says consumers will not be paying more!!!

There will be no two ways about it, if you are an English Premier League (EPL) fan - you will need to get a SingTel mio TV set-top box by next August, if you are not already a subscriber.
In a decisive coup, SingTel yesterday announced that not only had it secured exclusive rights to Premiership matches for three seasons, ESPN Star Sports channels would also migrate to mio TV. The latters' prime content include Formula 1, tennis' Wimbledon and Australian Open, and golf's British and US Opens.

Breaking News : Singtel had won EPL Broadcast Rights for the next 3 seasons!

Today sports fans in Singapore just need to subscribe a Sports package from Starhub & all you watch Sports events will be presented in multiple Sports Channel within the same service provider. Although Singtel won the rights for Champions League, as the Live telecast times are during the wee hours in the morning. Most scoccer fanatics will call it a miss & check the internet for the results. But this is still OK....

Next year things will change!!! Major EPL will goes to Singtel but the rest will stay with Starhub!

I watches Formula 1, Eric watches EPL. We love other sports like Tennis, so what will be the consequnce???? Consumers suffer. Additional subscribtion to another Pay TV provider...
Most likely my TV console table may be filled with both service providers console plus Wii plus etc..
Argh!!!! I am not liking this!!!!

SingTel wins EPL rights

SINGTEL has won exclusive rights to the Barclays Premier League for three years, it said on Thursday.

The Singapore telecommunications company has won exclusive rights to the League for three years starting from 2010.

These include rights for mio TV, as well as the Internet and mobile. It has also secured exclusive broadcast rights to seven sports channels from ESPN STAR Sports.

Mr Allen Lew, SingTel's CEO Singapore expressed his delight at being able to bring the matches to Singapore. 'Football fans can look forward to a revolutionary way of viewing 'live' soccer matches on TV, the Internet and their mobile phones.

According to Mr Lew, users will not be charged 'more than what they are currently paying to their cable TV operator, while enjoying the convenience of SingTel's integrated platform offering.

SingTel will be working closely with the Premier League and its production partners.

This ends a bidding war between Singapore's two pay-TV giants SingTel and StarHub to broadcast live English Premier League matches live.

The deadline for submitting bids was on Tuesday and SingTel was the first to confirm its interest, releasing a two-paragraph statement at 6pm.

Alonso admits Ferrari an 'option' for future
To the English-speaking media on Thursday, Fernando Alonso swore blind that reports of a looming Ferrari switch are not true.

The Spaniard however also gave interviews at the Nurburgring to reporters in the native tongues of Spain, France and Italy.

To the Spanish sports newspaper AS, he admitted that Ferrari is an option for the future.

"I have often said that I want to be in a car that allows me to win. In 2005 and 2006 everyone dreamed of the Renault, but in the last ten seasons Ferrari have won more championships than us.

"That's why Ferrari is the option that everyone has in mind, because of their successes of the past decade. You want to go where you will have the best car," said Alonso.

In another newspaper, El Mundo, the 27-year-old insisted he has "always been ready to go to a team like Ferrari."

"What I mean is that I am not demoralized, I am not sad, I am simply in delay.
It's like in the Tour (de France). I'm now in the stage where I am reserving my energy for the mountains, because it's then that I am going to be on top," Alonso added.

He refused to predict how his native country would react to the official news that he is switching to the famous Maranello-based team.

"I don't know, I am not a fortune teller. It is necessary to have this race in Germany, to see what happens in the championship, and what happens in the future is difficult to predict," said Alonso.

Dinner Tonight :)

Wanted to leave office before the peak hour surcharges starts @ 5pm but unable to because the 4pm conference lasted longer then expected & also need to complete some incomplete assignments. Why I want to leave early? Well I asked Daddy back for dinner tonight & I'm cooking!

Ya I do cook almost every day, but today got to spend a bit more effort to cook cause got guest. Else.. I will just cook some thing simple. Spend almost an hour cooking & washing up. These were my feast today.

As Cantonese, most meals must have soup. Soup of today is Chicken soup. I boiled 3 chicken drumstick into the pot with some slices of ginger & carrots. Later when the soup was done, add some egg tofu. Forgotten to de-skin the chicken, soup a bit oily.

All meals of mine must have veggies. I water boiled the Kai Lan & put aside. Then stir fried some fresh Japanese mushrooms with chopped garlic & oyster sauce. When mushroom is done, pour on top of veggies. This will make the water boiled veggies taste less blend.

Daddy loves fish, so I steamed a plate of fillets with bean paste mixed with chopped garlic. The garnishes on top are vinegar marinated ginger or 酸姜. Mommy always marinate a bottle for me when I finish the supply from the fridge. After you cooked these ginger, it does not taste that sour anymore.

What is all meal without rice. Cook 2 cups of rice & all finished by the man. I finally invested in a rice cooker after learning it takes 3 x or > energy to cook rice in a microwave oven then a generic rice cooker.

Everybody is satisfied after dinner & it ended with Burp!

My Office "Garden"

The usual comments when other colleagues visit our office & they will say "Wow there are so many plants & fish tanks on almost every desk!" Frankly its really true, almost 90% of the colleagues sitting in IT area either have at least a minimum of 1 pot of plant on their desk or 1 or more fish tanks with either water plants or gold fishes or guppies or even lobster!

Side track on the lobster... The original owner resigned & left the company. Another colleague whom replaces her job also inherit the lobster. Unfortunately he got WFM yesterday & the lobster is out for adoption mention by our dear Sharon... :( One good thing is that every morning cleaner auntie will feed the lobster without fail....

Coming back to the plants! Oh yes there are plants every where. Not loosing out I also have my own as well. Let me present you with my mini office garden!

From the walkway this look like just any ordinary empty cubicle. Ya there were many colleagues whom got WFM & many pockets of empty places all around.

Well if you walk into the cube... here are all my plants!

This is actually my 1st plant. A money plant which I inherited from Winnie Teng. Sorry dear, over all these years I only manage to grow 4 stalks of leaves :(

The next plant I brought to the office - Cactus. A gift from my 6th uncle whom has such great green fingers. Anything he plants will grow fat & tall!

Ah... this one is another inheritance - from Yeow Loye after he left an African Violet. Hey YL see it is growing well & blooming with flowers since the past couple of months.

A new addition to the family. Another African Violet just potted last week. I hope it will grow well :)

Lots of Long Weekends

Singapore's 2010 Public Holidays just published couple days ago. OMG!! OTher then Hari Raya Haji which falls on a Wed, the rest are either on Fri, Sat & Sun!!!
The best for us is we shall get Monday off when the PH falls on Sat. Hooray!

Another Team Order?!?!?!

After Qualifying on Saturday, I really thought its going to be different for this this race? Why so different? I really though Vettel may take the lead & win the race being pole other then Button. Unfortunately Vettel lost his grip & spun out of the track. Button overtook Vettel & the race winner had been decided...

What so frustrating is, Vettel was put on a 3 Pit Stop strategy while Webber was on 2! Was it a team order? Was it a punishment for Vettel loosing his position to Button during the 1st 3 laps of the race? Was it?!?!?!?!

During mid race, Vettel was so close to Button - < a fraction of second apart. You can see Vettel was pushing Button hard & almost made Button loosing his foot hold on this position. But the unexpected happen! Vettel being called it pit for a regular pit stop! What kind of strategy is this! I believe if Vettel to continue to push further, Button will loose his cool...

Well its obvious you wouldn't see a happy Vettel on the podium as well....More news from www.f1-live.com
Sebastian Vettel admitted feeling somewhat frustrated following the 58-lap Turkish Grand Prix that saw rival Jenson Button extend his already large championship advantage with another win while poor team strategy cost him second place to team-mate Mark Webber.

After running wide into turn nine and then losing time out of turn ten on the first lap, pole-sitter Vettel dropped out of the lead and behind Button. This would prove to be a decisive as Vettel then focussed his attention to keep the Brawn Mercedes in sight and Red Bull Renault team-mate Webber behind.

However, Red Bull opted to keep Vettel on a three stop strategy in the hope that later in the race he could catch and pass the championship leader to record the race win - an unlikely scenario given the pace of the Brawn in practice and qualifying. This was also a surprise to the young German star as well as to the paddock.

"After the first stint it was more or less clear that I was short on fuel and therefore I was surprised that we still went on a three stop strategy as from there onwards it did not make much sense especially as I caught up Jenson in my middle stint and lost time there," Vettel explained. "I basically lost the race to Mark as well, so all in all we probably didn't do the best job there."

The battle for second however still remained. Following his third stop for fuel and tyres, Vettel quickly closed in on Webber before team instruction told him to save the car and not to try and gain second position.

"I was surprised it was that much and then my engineer came on the radio and said Mark was faster," he continued. "I think I just have to ask you what you would do in this kind of situation.

You start from pole, you realise that your strategy doesn't work as it was supposed to and you're not in the position you want to be, so the last thing you do is just go round slowly and drive the car home. I think both of us turned down the engines but I enjoy driving, so I would rather continue to go quickly than start to slow down and carry the car home."

"At this point I haven't spoken to the team but at this point I don't yet understand why we were still on a three stop. I think a two stop would have just secured second position. We tried; it didn't work, so we'll know next time."

Vettel is clearly frustrated this evening as he now trails Button by a massive 32 points, a gap that is almost impossible to regain. Furthermore, Webber's second position moves him just 1.5 points behind.

Team Principal Christian Horner was keen to diffuse the issue in his post race statement claiming that Vettel's lap one mistake had essentially forced the team to remain with a three stop strategy.

"Unfortunately for Sebastian, after a good start and having led on the first lap, he made a small mistake which allowed Jenson to pass," Horner stated. "Our only chance to then have a go at Jenson was a three-stop strategy, which is what we elected to do. It relied on us overtaking Jenson in the second stint, but unfortunately Sebastian didn't manage that today and the time lost was the difference between second and third."

Co-founder Larry Page takes in Monte Carlo

The famous internet brand Google could soon be seen on the painted carbon bodywork of a Formula One car.

The company's co-founder Larry Page, one of the world's richest billionaires, was a guest of McLaren title sponsor Vodafone at last weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.

Interestingly, the 36-year-old American is a friend of Sir Richard Branson, the British billionaire who has been considering ramping up his Virgin backing of the dominant Brawn team.

Page was married on Branson's own Caribbean island, and the pair have also been linked in various business ventures.

Brawn is not the only team interested in Google sponsorship, however; every major outfit on the grid is believed to have put out the feelers as to how serious Page's interest is.

Gmail

You know our company wide had gotten rid of using Microsoft Exchange as our general email application & switch to Google Mail. Gmail for short. Initially when all of us started using this we really felt "Cheap". Why is it so???

Lots of functions which were so simple in MS seems like impossible in Gmail. For example

No drag & drop into folder.
No folder filing concept.
No sub folder concept.
No copy & paste from a source like picture or charts to compose mail body.
No nice word formatting like what we see in MS.
No mail attachments
No many many more just to name a few above.

Gmail is a web base application therefore all of us have to use Firefox & most of us here are not familiar with multiple tab browsing concept. However with these said, there are also lots benefit having us to switch. Not mention the amount of $$ being saved, also now one can read their emails any time any where if you have a browser phone & also VPN is not required to read mails as well!

Lately Google also introduce new patches that allow theme customization on the Gmail skin. What got me so facinated was the theme that I chosen actually changes its images base on the timing of the day. Come to think of it, this Gmail thingie is really not that bad after all... :)

Another Button Win

F1 beginning to be almost predictable over the last Races. Its like...

Button will take pole
Button will lead
Button will win

What happen to the rest of the drivers?
Ferrari struggled for the last 5 races of being diffuser-less. Car not performing per standard & also reliability issues.
McLaren is worst. Crappy car & Heikki Kovalainen crashes out almost every other race. Hamilton struggles with the most crappiest car throughout his entire career in racing. Overly pushes car & bang out he goes in Q1 for Monaco!
BMW don't know what happen, keep scrapping the bottom. Is it KERS or the driver???
My dear Renault - Alonso!!! haiz.. still unable to move up the grid...

Well we know the diffuser gang are doing well. When will the rest catch up????? If this going to maintain for the next few races, World Champion & Constructors Championship shall be decided Spa or Monza!

Not sure who will be the next team to pull out if Ferrari decided not to participate in 2010.
But come to think of it, Ferrari has a huge fan base. Lots of revenue were generated in related mechanizing & even sponsorship of the races.
Therefore without Ferrari will you think there will be any more F1????

Ferrari's Board of Directors, chaired by Luca di Montezemolo, held a meeting on Tuesday at their Maranello headquarters to discuss business matters, but high on the order were the recent decisions taken by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council regarding the controversial budget cap option beginning next year.

Under the 2010 regulations, teams opting to limit their budgets to 45 million Euros ($60m US) would enjoy much greater technical freedom than other teams, effectively creating a 'two-tier' series within Formula One.

Many teams find the matter unacceptable as it currently stands, and the FIA's deadline of May 29th in order to file entries for the 2010 championship only added pressure to an already volatile situation with some teams speaking of boycotts.

Today Ferrari has boldly stated that, unless common ground can be found, it will retire from Formula One at the end of the current season.

Speaking of the WMSC decisions, a Ferrari statement indicated that "for the first time ever in Formula 1, the 2010 season will see the introduction of two different sets of regulations based on arbitrary technical rules and economic parameters."

"The Board considers that if this is the regulatory framework for Formula 1 in the future, then the reasons underlying Ferrari's uninterrupted participation in the World Championship over the last 60 years � the only constructor to have taken part ever since its inception in 1950 � would come to a close."

A long-standing point of conflict has been the FIA's tendency to move ahead with its plans without � from the teams' point of view � taking the considerations forwarded by the teams under serious review.

"The Board also expressed its disappointment about the methods adopted by the FIA in taking decisions of such a serious nature and its refusal to effectively reach an understanding with constructors and teams," the Ferrari press release continued.

"The rules of governance that have contributed to the development of Formula 1 over the last 25 years have been disregarded, as have the binding contractual obligations between Ferrari and the FIA itself regarding the stability of the regulations."

The Formula One Teams Association is not against the principle of budget capping but many teams have been lobbying against the 'two-tier' system on the basis that the sport, like any sport, should have identical regulations for everyone involved. Now Ferrari calls for a change in the way F1 is governed as well.

"The same rules for all teams, stability of regulations, the continuity of the FOTA's endeavours to methodically and progressively reduce costs, and governance of Formula 1 are the priorities for the future," Ferrari affirm.

"If these indispensable principles are not respected and if the regulations adopted for 2010 will not change, then Ferrari does not intend to enter its cars in the next Formula 1 World Championship."

"Ferrari trusts that its many fans worldwide will understand that this difficult decision is coherent with the Scuderia's approach to motor sport and to Formula 1 in particular, always seeking to promote its sporting and technical values. The Chairman of the Board of Directors was mandated to evaluate the most suitable ways and methods to protect the company's interests," the statement concludes.

These were the few questions I asked my colleagues whom are F1 fans this morning. All of them gave the same answers!

Yes its team order! Look at the face of Rubens! So unhappy. Ross Brawn was Ferrari tactician during Schumacher days! Well he did made lots of team orders Rubens then. No wonder Rubens was unhappy. Its so clearly portray they are in favor of getting Button on top of the table.

Come to think of it, I am really getting quite sick watching the race these days. Not being sour grape but just week after week Button is winning. No doubt last season it was either Hamilton or Kimi or Massa on the podium but there were still race excitements.

The blunders! Sorry I can't stop laughing..

Race Engineer: "Massa! you are consuming too much fuel for the last lap! Save fuel! Save fuel!"
Massa: "What you want me to do! I am defending my position"

I believe there must be some &^@#* which were censored.

Massa: "...."

Out of no where, Alonso being 16 secs behind Massa on the last lap, shot up & close the gap. He overtook Massa & there were loud roar on the grandstand. I cheer & clap at home too!!!

See I have downgraded from tissue to kitchen towel. Its more cheaper to use kitchen tower then tissue for cleaning up during my daily brushing regime.

Sakhir - Bahrain

This was exactly how I felt watching the race. Boring. Not because there were no crashes, its just the race was so mundane.

When Button took the lead, its like almost certain if no mistake were made, he will win the race & he really did.

Was quite disappointed with Alonso where there were some good results shown on him during qualifying. Unfortunately the water pump didn't work...

Fernando Alonso gave reporters at the Sakhir circuit a scare immediately after the Bahrain Grand Prix, when he 'nearly fainted'.
The Spaniard finished eighth in the sweltering Sakhir heat, but was almost overcome by dizziness as he spoke with the media in the aftermath of the 57-lap race.

His Renault team explained that Alonso was dehydrated because his drinks pump failed to work during the race.

"He subsequently suffered from dehydration as he got out of the car. He has now fully recovered, said a statement.
Alonso concurred, telling the media he is 'fine'. He finished eighth.
"We only scored one point and so we need to improve at the next Grand Prix,"

The Year of the "Under Dogs"?

The other day I was having this conversation with a friend whom he is also another passionate person about Formula 1. Well obviously he started watching the season way earlier then I am. In his era was Schumacher & Montoya racing side by side...

He was saying.. watching the 1st 3 race was so boring cause all the usual favorites like Ferrari, McLaren, BMW & even Renault were so badly or under performed. They either DNF or make silly mistakes where you thought only the Force India may make... (no pun intended :P)

Well look at the current moment after 3 race

All the big 4 teams have not even touch pole in qualifying.
None of them are in the Podium.
First there is KERS then no KERS. (Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems)
A bad diffuser, a make shift diffuser or No diffuser.
The Best of all, Ferrari is still Pointless.

Look at now, Jenson Button won 2 race! The Red Bull miraculously maiden won in Shanghai with 1 & 2 placing.

Who do you think will dominate Bahrain? Toro Rosso? Toyota? Williams? or Force India!!! All of us must really change our mind set in watching F1 in this season. Although we are in the year of OX, in F1 its the year of the Under Dogs!

Bizarre "Loved" Triangle

Watching Formula 1 for the last 2 years, this is my 3rd season now, I've never seen such a bizarre race throughout the years. Look at this, its like paddling on wheels (very fast though) in a pond!

The other day I watch some highlights from the show, the commentator was interviewing a fan just before the 2009 FORMULA 1 PETRONAS MALAYSIAN GRAND PRIX race.

He said " I love this place, the weather is great & the race will be exciting!!"

Haha I just wonder will he be regretting to say these after the race ended after 32 laps!!!

Rain is always in the schedule when it comes to Sepang. I can't recall seeing a race there without rain though. Sometimes I wonder can't someone do something on clearing & creating more drainage holes so as when the skies started to downpour (usual sight in tropical countries like us) the entire circuit does not flood like a pond?!?!?!

So much so been said, these are just some of the hilarious moments I can't stop giggling while watching the race... Which I call the Bizarre "Loved" Triangle

Incident (1) The Ferrari duos!

Filipe Massa has to hold his own "Miss Ella" (Umbrella) when everything calls for halt after 32. His is complaining to his mechanic & also whomever is around him. He talks, hand gestures flying all over & when he was ask to hold his own umbrella, his face fumes! What a rare sight seeing someone in a Formula 1 car & holding his own brollie...

Kimi Raikkonen had to retire after a wrong decision to change him into wet shoes before the rain starts! Hey whom ever dude whom made this decision has to be shot! Look at poor Kimi struggling on a dry track with wet shoes! But nonetheless he is awarded with Coke & Ice Cream + a change in cool bermuda while everybody is soaking wet in the Rain!!!

Incident (2) The obedient Drivers

Drivers whom follow the rules stay in the car soaking wet while waiting for a decision to be made by FIA on what were they going to do with the race. Stop it? Continue?

Incident (3) Twilight Race

To fit the European audience, race was started at almost late in evening. Drivers are complaining of unable to see much with the sun setting dusk. In view of the safety of the drivers & also not having the stop a race prematurely, they really have to consider again whether is it still a good idea for have the same for next year!

LOL! Ain't I Fast!!! I am their testers! They are at SAT stage when they launched this. Last year during the initial period of ticket sales, there were a huge bottleneck at the Internet Booking system, ticket sales Hotline & even the physical ticketing booth.

This year, they engage SISTIC, one of Singapore's most reputable ticketing organization to handle the Sales! Everything went smooth sale & I have no problem getting my desired seats!

Cost Cutting...

During this difficult period of times, many companies are exercising cost cutting measures in order for their company stay afloat & paddle through this downturn situation.

My company being in a semiconductor industry is also not doing anything less to cut operating cost within the company.

Not mentioning all those drastic WFM (Work Force Manage) or laid off effort which has been on going almost in every other month, there had also been many other things that were done.

We have to take 5 days of annual leave during Q109 (Nov08 to Jan09) & also another 5 days in Q209 (Feb09 to Apr09). Not sure will there be the same in Q309????

No unnecessary travel can be made. Only customer visit or other crucial. But not sure why that fellow still travel down every quarter to SEA for meetings??!!????

We are laughing, in the future every beginning of the year, each one of us will be issue 1 roll of toilet paper for ALL use. If you finish your quota, too bad. No more paper or you have to purchase from the paper dispenser. All proceeds land into "who else..." gross margin. hahahaha!!!!

During last Winter of Formula 1 Testing, there are still rumors about what are the fate for Honda Racing. The Mexican buyer suddenly seems to lost interest & there are no takers. Jenson Button & Rubens Barrichello seems to be outta job for Season 2009!

Just about 1 month before the season starts, the announcement of Brawn GP taking over the team.
What are they? Ross Brawn the owner now was the team principle of Honda Racing. They spent the entire 2008 developing this new BGP 001 & he really sadden to see the effort gone into waste.

The rest are history & results speaks the loudest. Both drivers won the 1st Australian Gran Prix in Albert Park. Not since the French Grand Prix in 1954 has a team new to Formula One racing finished one-two on their debut.

Who says Dreams may not come true. There were so many spectacular F1 dreams coming true.

Sebastian Vettel miracle won in Italy - Monza last year.
Fernando Alonso having a bad start in the lack luster Renault R28 work his up through the races & won back to back in Singapore & Japan Fuji Speedway.

Miracles does happens but it just when & where & will it happen to you... I believe in such but also know I don't have that luck to wait for a miracle.

Guys whom knows me well knows I don't really blog about my work. Not that its not worth writing but its just too many things & too many variations like what I like or don't etc...

Over the years close colleagues of mine will know there was a "dark" time in my career. Throughout the years of organization changes, my dear bosses will try at their up most best to keep me away. I truly, deeply & gratefully thank all of them for it!

However life is always so ironical & endlessly posses great challenges to me.

In a large multinational company..............

A fire alarm rang at 4 PM in a large office when almost all employees were in office (approx 5000). As usual the entire office was evacuated within 3 mins & all employees gathered outside the office in the designated area waiting for further announcement.

The Security Officer in charge made the following announcement: "Dear employees - with sincere regret I have been asked to announce that for many of you it will be your last evacuation drill. Due to the recession the company is laying off almost 50% of its employees. So when this announcement finishes, I ask all of you to move back into the building and if your swipe card does not work then it means you have been laid off in which case you will not be allowed inside and all your belongings will be couriered to you by tomorrow.

The Company has used this innovative approach as we didn't want to fill up the email box with lay-off mails and good bye mails in thousands & also to avoid any fight inside the office and the consequent security issue for all staff.

Hope you have had a rewarding career with us and all the best ahead.

I met an accident

I have never admit I am a safe driver. I do drive fast some times. I do beat the lights some times if I think I don't want to break abruptly. I will horn or flash at other drivers if they cut my lane or do silly things. Of all these I am still ok la.. other then does minor scratch marks accidents which was incur by me in the past, I have never met a road accident throughout my 5 years of driving.

Last Friday was dreadful. Rush back from doc appointment & have to go to my bro's place to fetch him to the airport. Ya ya .. his another x trip to Tel Aviv (Israel)

I am at the right most lane, the lights at the junction was green, I continue going...
I saw a car from the other side of the road doing a U turn WITHOUT checking on coming traffic i.e. ME!!
I horn (VERY LOUDLY & NOT letting go) & step on my brakes, the car continue to U turn..
OMG.. the car is not Stopping (almost half the car length was in my lane)!!!!
I check my mirrors & immediately sway the left.
There was contact. I can feel it. Signal to the left & we all pull over.

Eric was with me in the car. Immediately he got down of the car & check the damages.
I tell myself "Do Not Panic"... Saw the driver & I yell immediately (喂!!! 你怎么驾车的)
Translation - ooi how you drive one!!!
He knew the fault at his so there were no argument. He apologize & we took photos of both vehicles & exchange phone + IC numbers.

Damages??? Well thank goodness I did the sway to the left & both our damages were very minimal. Minor scratch marks on the right side of my bumber with minor abrasion on one of the front right rims spooks. Bumper mildly indented but not obvious at all.

This is what I meant.

Today I took leave. Got the car entire bumper patched & re-spray. Now is back as new :)
Glad all is over.

If you notice around you (in Singapore I meant :P) you will see on some open area where there grass patches, there are colorful cows "grazing".

I vaguely remember last year this media company Moove Media who are a subsidiary of Comfort Delgro did similar advertisement. Since their mascot is a cow so & ushering the year of the cow, they pull out the same trick again.

I am so fascinated with these cute cows, can't help stopping my car in a car park, walk near to them & snap these pics. Trust me, all the other drivers driving past that corner heading towards the expressway was really wondering what am I doing...

But I think the effort of taking these pics were worth it. They are really so cool & cute.

Last week, my status at Facebook was - Joanne broke her wrought iron gate!! Oh no!!

Isn't that great! I can have such great strength to break my own gate. Frankly I really don't know what happen. I just as usual put the keys in & open it.

It started to have some cracking sound but I ignore it. Later when I attempted to close, it can't be closed. After trying a few times (end of the day - rather slow in mind), then I saw the hinge of the gate was sheer off at the joint!

Seriously I have no idea how can this can be happening as wrought iron gates are meant to very tough & hard! Tried calling people to come & fix it but to no avail. Its either they charges me exuberant prices or no workers around...

I have no choice but live with a broken gate throughout the Chinese New Year...

Please don't say that I am being bias or even superstitious. Over the last couple of weeks or months, I guess there were so many news regarding all the leading banks around the world either filing for bankruptcy or being taken over by another bank or even whatever news there is... Hearing all these really makes us wonder - are our money really safe in the banks now?!?!?!

Guess this is really up to me to decipher nor comments whereby at this moment it may really up to God Bless the Banks.

Why out of a sudden I shown interest on the current economy? Not that I am always obnoxious regarding what is happening around me, but some times I rather keep my opinion to myself as not to offend other people which may have other point of view.

Well what prompts me to write this passage is really this.... Last week I was doing my pre boxing day shopping (boost Singapore economy OK) at Marina, I come across this.

My husband being an ex Merrill Lynch says the bull is the symbol of the bank. I just wonder why is this bull so weirdly sculpted? Should it had the head facing or looking upwards just like the original Bank symbol?

I walk closer & try to see whether is there any write ups or wording to describe the sculpture & I saw this...

No wonder Merrill got taken over by BAC (Bank of America) & its Asia chairman is resigning!!! This is because the sculptor sculpt the bull head facing downwards which symbolize a tired & restless bull without any charge. On top of this, this sculpture was done June 2008. This is almost the beginning of the WW financial crisis.

Christmas Eve Dinner

It was rather "last minute" where we decided to eat at home for Christmas eve. Not wanting to pay the outrages dinner & also avoid the squeeze as well. I remember last year we invited a few friends for Christmas dinner & we ordered Cold Storage ready dinner. They were actually quite good too.

This were what I manage to whip out after an afternoon shopping at NTUC Finest.

The entire meal that I started cooking since 3pm in the afternoon

This was the platter of food which include... drunken chicken wings, sausages, honey bake ham, my homemade mash potato & white button mushrooms simmer with chicken stocks.

This is the chinese style dumpling soup from the chicken stocks balance from the chicken which I cook in the afternoon.

Then the must have veggies. Salad

Trust me I was tired after all these cooking.

Yes my nick is Layzze because as most friends know I am generally quite a lazy person.
It has really been a crazy month! Lots of work, lots of errands to make & it has been so overwhelmed that I almost don't have much time to do the stuff that I like to do like blogging for example :)

So what really did happen? Well I went for a holiday to China - Sanya. Scenery was nice but people wise a bit... Probably because that is a touristy place & their main source of industry is Tourism.
Anyway I will share some pics here soon. But prior to this I need to solve my photo website Photobucket. Lately it just refuse to allow me to upload :(

Then I had a change in reporting boss Again... hahahaha. I was telling my staff the other day.. in 2 year of time frame I think I change 5 bosses! Change boss also means a bit change in job scope. More things to do.

What else. Oh ya collected new car. Busy adapting to it & thinking what to change kekeke...

Getting the Nose Fixed

Friends of mine will know I do have on and off nose problem. Either sneezing or an infection that leads to a fever. Lately this nose of mine is also not giving any problem less. It get painful which causes a migraine and I would say this is not something that I wish to bear along with.

Therefore today I went to see this ENT (Ear Nose Throat) specialist at Mount Elizabeth Hospital. The clinic name is YH Goh Ear Nose Throat, Head & Neck Surgery. Sound scary thou.

Dr Goh is friendly & he has such good complexion that I even thought he is an Aesthetic doctor instead.

Well Dr Goh is very knowledgeable in this field & after consultation + a scope view (eeks) into my nose. He deduce I am not suffering from Sinus (Phew) but its more of an Allergy.

He gave me a list of Food that I should abstract... see below

Alonso!!!!!

Since Friday Practice till yesterday, that was the only cheer I shouted for the entire race. Whenever I saw a yellow Renault passes by the Grandstand, I will shout "Alonso!!". Well everybody sat around me thinks I am nuts.

When he won the race, I was escalated. For the beginning season, I got disappointed when he can't qualifies within the top 10 & got drop out from the race for whatever reasons. But this for the last couple race, things looks better on the R28. It was 4th in finishing at least for the Monza race.

It was yesterday night where he finally got to stand on the podium & won the 1st Singapore's Night Race.

Other then these, while walking to our grandstand we passes by these rows of antique car that was used for the Driver's parade.

On the way we also met some Ferrari's supporters as well.

The weather was not that good as there were overcast during the evening. Luckily it turns out well during the race with also light breeze blowing towards the grandstand.

Last but not least, dinner was at Carls Junior & pics to took on the circuit.

Saturday Qualifying

Yes I was very disappointed when Alonso car just losses the "steam" & passes my our grandstand with no sound at all. But nonetheless he tried his best & he top 2nd & 3rd Practice session. Well we shall see what happen in tonight's race.

Well let me just share some interesting of the grandstand where we are seated.

Its call the Marina Bay Floating Stadium & its build in replacement of the demolishing of our National Stadium. The seating capacity of this stadium is 30,000 people. Imagine I am surrounded by this much of people for these couple of days!!! At the same time, this grandstand also pose a superb view of the Singapore Flyer at the back drop.

Just right after the qualifying, you can see all the track personnel begin at work to pick up any of the debris that fell off onto the track. Up keeping the track free of foreign particles are a must. Salute to these hardworking people!

At the same time I manage to walk closer to the track & took the gravel that was laid on the track.

Well here were some pics of me took on the grandstand & also there were entertainers all around the track to keep every body occupied.

Friday's Practice Session

The sound was magnificent, deafening to ears as well. Finally after 1 year of anticipation, I've heard for myself the first time the roaring sound of the F1 cars. Thank goodness I am well prepared ahead & gotten my brother to buy me the ear plugs (from the Air Force) hehehehe. Those were good!!!

Directions leading to the gate was well indicated, the moment we park our car, there were footprints stickers on the ground leading you to the gate.

We drove the Raffles place & did a longer walk to Bay Grandstand. About 15 minutes. We recon the time spend to walk to City Hall MRT & taking a train back will be longer.

We reaches there almost dusk & able to catch a glimpse of Sunset at our Central Business District.

This is where we are seated. Too bad the screen is blocked by the lamp post.

During the first practice session, Mark Webber crashed out on this turn. This is the turn where Ching Wei speculated Nakajima will crash out instead.

We decided the leave the circuit earlier as there were couple of human choke points. This is what people will see on the walkabout ticket.

Last but not least, a visit to the Anderson Bridge is a MUST.

I went to the Flyer Again

This time round I brought my family over. Daddy, 2 rascals & Eric. We are there in the afternoon & the weather was perfect. I would say its another new experience for me where over a month ago, due to some "Feng Shui" reasons, The Singapore Flyer decided its more better to rotate the huge wheel clockwise rather then the original anti-clockwise direction.

Yesterday race in Monza Italy marks a very significant part of F1 history of all times. Sebastian Vettle (if you understand German, then you could visit his official website as well) being the 1st Scuderia Torro Rosso to be on pole, he also clinches the races in 1st being the youngest driver on F1 history to win a race.

No one had ever expected a small Italian base team in Faenza Italy would win the race.

The morale of this race, believe in your dreams & it will comes true if you work hard for it. However there need some sprinkle of luck as well :)

Prayers for a safe race weekend

THREE weeks from now, the world’s fastest cars will be flying down the 5km Marina Bay street circuit here hitting top speeds of 300kmh.

It will be the first time Formula 1 pilots will be racing at night under the glare of lights.

Safety concerns have never been far away in the build up to the 2008 Formula 1 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix on Sept 28.

Toyota’s Jarno Trulli said last week in Belgium he was a little uneasy after the spate of wet weather here.

Maybe after organisers Singapore GP’s blessing ceremony of the track yesterday, everyone can rest easy.

Representatives from 10 religious groups in Singapore conducted prayers for a successful and safe race here from Sept 26-28.

The idea was the brainchild of Singapore GP deputy chairman Colin Syn, who said: “We are a multi-cultural society and this is something that we are accustomed to here. I believe getting all the religions involved to pray for a safe weekend is a good thing.”

Earlier, Singapore GP chairman Teo Hock Seng gave Today a tour of the track and pointed out some of the safety features of the street circuit. He also revealed why the track was designed as an anti-clockwise circuit.

The main consideration, Teo said, was safety.

“If you look at the last turn before the start-finish straight, it is quite a tight corner,” said Teo. “Had we designed it as the first turn, the start of the race would have been hazardous because the turn there does not allow us to design a safe run-off area for drivers.

“It is a short distance to the beach and there is simply no space to build one.”

Organizers expect at least 100,000 fans to turn up for the race and Teo gave an assurance that they all can look forward to an exciting outing, as plans have been put in place to ensure everyone’s needs are met.

“There are a lot of F&B outlets around the track and they are pretty affordable. I think the fans are going to enjoy themselves, we want everyone to enjoy themselves,” said Teo.

Well I can't say I am lazy eventhough I am called Layzze by my netizen name, but I have really been rather caught up with many many things to do over the last couple of weeks.

Not to mention about work as it still the same old stuff, in fact nothing exciting & its part of the routine. Its really had been the off work activities that ate away most of my blogging time.

First I had to prepare for the up coming mooncake festival & spend some time tasting & buying mooncakes. *Burp*...

Then I attended a wedding lunch where my cousin wedded her daughter. hahaha!! Not that I am admiting old but my cousin is I think > 10 years my senior la.

Later comes my birthday which I celebrated last Wed. Thanks to all my good friends whom gotten such wonderful gifts, I REALLY LOVE IT!!!

PS: I shall blog about my Wii Fit later :P

At the same time had many lunches & dinners with them as well.

The biggest exciting thing is - I've got a new hairdo! Finally decided to snip off the > 5 yrs kept long hair of mine. I like the new look & the new style as well. Guess this will be my hair style for at least couple of months if I decided to cut it even shorter.... HAHAHA!!!!

I am glad it turns out well

At a post almost dated a year back, I did mention I do love to dance. In the beginning of this year, Eric also pluck up his courage & started to learn dancing as well.

About 4 months ago we started basic Waltz classes. Months passes we also advances to Intermediat. The school Shawn & Gladys is holding exams for dances this coming weekend.

Both of us decided not to take as I generally does not like being stressed out by an exam. However last Tuesday, being our last class of this semester, our good friend Zinc actually helped us to video our routine. I am really glad all turns well.

Excitement on the Track

Who say I am a weirdo that watches F1 only hoping there are some excitement like spins, crashes, overtakes etc...

Last Sunday was the first street race in Valencia. My opinion, the street circuit looks like any of the season's race track but with some buildings & a bridge to cross. *Yawn*

On the overall, its rather an empty piece of land with a circuit slam right in the middle of it. The race was rather boring & the position that qualifies returns the with the podium position as well.

Even at F1-live.com also commented on a boring race.

Formula Boredom at Valencia

Valencia's new Formula One street circuit failed to deliver much excitement during the European Grand Prix on Sunday, the press declared.

"Ho-hum in Valencia," the International Herald Tribune headlined, panning the processional race on the streets of the Spanish port city.

Even the Spanish media did not disagree.

"A boring track," the sports daily Marca admitted, "with hardly any possibilities for overtaking."

We have this company benefit where we are allow to claim annually $450.00 SDG for any purchase or services made. However the catch is no chemical related or health harming purchases or services.

I am going on a holiday soon & bought air tickets online. The only receipt given was the e-ticket.

Me : Oh I can use my air tickets to claim the flexi benefit?!?!
Friend : Oh ya you could. Do it immediately just in case company policy starts changing.
Me : Huh???? Use my e-ticket to claim??? What if other people use my e-ticket to fly instead?? Then I will not get to go for my holiday....

I shall not denied the fact where some of the best counterfeits products does comes from the smart Chinese where at times some of us really cannot tell whether is it real or not!

Last Friday I am impress on the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing. I don't denied the fact where it was a magnificent choreograph ceremony where many of us watch with much delight & seeing many mouth dropping stuns or effects being brought right in front of our eyes.

However for the last couple days, reading the news had made me even more impress on the Chinese on what they have done to put together this event.

Do you remember the very nice fireworks display especially the one with many giant foot prints? Its like a huge giant walking towards the bird nest stadium?

As the ceremony got under way with a dramatic, drummed countdown, viewers watching at home and on giant screens inside the Bird's Nest National Stadium watched as a series of giant footprints outlined in fireworks processed gloriously above the city from Tiananmen Square.

What they did not realise was that what they were watching was in fact computer graphics, meticulously created over a period of months and inserted into the coverage electronically at exactly the right moment.

The fireworks were there for real, outside the stadium. But those responsible for filming the extravaganza decided in advance it would be impossible to capture all 29 footprints from the air.

As a result, only the last, visible from the camera stands inside the Bird's Nest was captured on film.

The trick was revealed in a local Chinese newspaper, the Beijing Times, at the weekend.

Gao Xiaolong, head of the visual effects team for the ceremony, said it had taken almost a year to create the 55-second sequence. Meticulous efforts were made to ensure the sequence was as unnoticeable as possible: they sought advice from the Beijing meteorological office as to how to recreate the hazy effects of Beijing's smog at night, and inserted a slight camera shake effect to simulate the idea that it was filmed from a helicopter.

"Seeing how it worked out, it was still a bit too bright compared to the actual fireworks," he said. "But most of the audience thought it was filmed live - so that was mission accomplished."

He said the main problem with trying to shoot the real thing was the difficulty of placing the television helicopter at the right angle to see all 28 footsteps in a row.

One advisor to the Beijing Olympic Committee (BOCOG) defended the decision to use make-believe to impress the viewer. "It would have been prohibitive to have tried to film it live," he said. "We could not put the helicopter pilot at risk by making him try to follow the firework route."

A spokeswoman for BOCOG said the final decision had been made by Beijing Olympic Broadcasting, the joint venture between the International Olympic Committee and local organisers that is responsible for providing the main "feeds" of all Olympic events to viewers around the world.

"As far as we are concerned, we let off the fireworks - that's what's important to us," she said.

Mr Gao said he was worried that technologically literate viewers who spotted the join might be critical, but comments online suggested more admiration of the result.

Although the event as a whole received rapturous reviews abroad, that has not been entirely the case at home. Some internet comments were hostile, saying that while it looked stunning the contents were vacuous.

Others focused on the sheer numbers of people involved - more than 16,000 performers, mostly from People's Liberation Army song and dance troops.

"That certainly showed China's unique character," said one comment. "Namely, that we have 1.3 billion people."

Another interesting being publicize was the little gal singing on the opening ceremony. From the same source of Telegraph.co.uk

The girl in the red dress with the pigtails, called Lin Miaoke, 9, and from a Beijing primary school, has become a national sensation since Friday night, giving interviews to all the most popular newspapers.

But the show's musical designer felt forced to set the record straight. He gave an interview to Beijing radio saying the real singer was a seven-year-old girl who had won a gruelling competition to perform the anthem, a patriotic song called "Hymn to the Motherland".

At the last moment a member of the Chinese politburo who was watching a rehearsal pronounced that the winner, a girl called Yang Peiyi, might have a perfect voice but was unsuited to the lead role because of her buck teeth.

So, on the night, while a pre-recording of Yang Peiyi singing was played, Lin Miaoke, who has already featured in television advertisements, was seen but not heard.

"This was a last-minute question, a choice we had to make," the ceremony's musical designer, Chen Qigang, said. "Our rehearsals had already been vetted several times - they were all very strict. When we had the dress rehearsals, there were spectators from various divisions, including above all a member of the politburo who gave us his verdict: we had to make the swap."

Mr Chen's interview gave an extraordinary insight into the control exercised over the ceremony by the Games' political overseers, all to ensure the country was seen at its best.

Officials have already admitted that the pictures of giant firework footprints which marched across Beijing towards the stadium on Friday night were prerecorded, digitally enhanced and inserted into footage beamed across the world.

Mr Chen said the initial hopefuls to sing the anthem had been reduced to ten, and one, a ten-year-old, had originally been chosen for the quality of her voice. But she, too, had fallen by the wayside because she was not "cute" enough.

"We used her to sing in all the rehearsals," Mr Chen said. "But in the end the director thought her image was not the most appropriate, because she was a little too old. Regrettably, we had to let her go."

At that point Yang Peiyi stepped up to the plate.

"The main consideration was the national interest," he said. "The child on the screen should be flawless in image, in her internal feelings, and in her expression. In the matter of her voice, Yang Peiyi was flawless, in the unanimous opinion of all the members of the team."

That was until attention turned to Yang Peiyi's teeth. Nevertheless, Mr Chen thought the end result a perfect compromise.

"We have a responsibility to face the audience of the whole country, and to be open with this explanation," he said. "We should all understand it like this: it is a question of the national interest. It is a question of the image of our national music, our national culture.

"Especially at the entrance of our national flag, this is an extremely important, an extremely serious matter.

"So we made the choice. I think it is fair to both Lin Miaoke and Yang Peiyi - after all, we have a perfect voice, a perfect image and a perfect show, in our team's view, all together."

One question remains: why was Lin Miaoke allowed to give interviews in which she lapped up the praise for her singing. Mr Chen said she might not have known that the words she was singing could not be heard. She had, in fact, only known she was going to perform at all 15 minutes beforehand.

Yang Peiyi is said to have reacted well to the disappointment. "I am proud to have been chosen to sing at all," she is reported to have said.

Come to think of it, Chinese are really very good in making everything looks so perfect!

Road to Singapore F1 Night Race

To start off this road, I shall not blah blah too much on the tickets purchases as it was rather in a mess. The hot line was forever so hot & they even sent my confirmation letter to the wrong email address. Luckily I called then & the confirmation letter came.

Today 11th Aug 2008, I throttle my way down to SingPost Jurong Point & with a small little girl delight of like getting a huge gift, I waited in the long snake queue for almost 15 mins.

Finally my turn came & I hand over the letter. The counter lady was friendly & told me hold on a minute while she search for my tickets. Seconds later this thing came.

Frankly I didn't expect to collect a box of tickets. I thought it will be like couple strip of papers - the usual ticket alike I meant. The girl saw my shocked & she added, don't worry its just something small inside.

I went home later & ply open this magnificent ticket box. This was what it looks like inside.

HAHAHA.. its really small in there! Took that 2 black things out & the tickets were held in here. This is the cover of the 3 days pass.

Opening the covers up, to my surprise (sorry I've never been to a F1 race, so I don't know how a F1 ticket looks like) the tickets its really like a pass. You know like the company badge with our name & picture on it.

At the same time each pass has its own lanyard as well.

In addition, the box also came with the map of the circuit + you do's & don'ts for the race.

For those guys whom had not gotten your tickets... what are you waiting for?!?!?!

A very Happy Man!

*Shy* this post should have been written on Monday, was so caught up with things at work & etc... didn't have a chance to complete this till now.

I am sure those F1 fanatics like me will have watched last Sunday Hungary Race. Robert Kubica says this is a Mickey Mouse track. Not that it is easy, but there are so many turns & corners it really make it looks like driving round multiple Mickey Mouses ears!!

The race started nice, no collision. Hamilton lost the 1st corner to Massa & you can see the spirit of the McLaren Team really drops. Of course the Ferrari camp was escalated. Massa had 2 good pit stops & it still puts him on the lead till the last 4 or 5 lapse to go disaster happens. His engine blew & that is it for him!

Not only Massa suffers from an engine blow, Hamilton also blew his tyre as well. Lucky for him, the rims did not cut through & he was still able to complete the race with 5 (Behind Alonso!!!)

The podium has a new Fin (not Kimi) on Number 1. Its Heikki Kovalainen. He drove well, no accidents. Stay on track & he wins his first career podium finishes at the top. Look at this happy man. I really likes his smile.

Last Friday, I took a off from work. Close friends around me will know when I am off, I'll be at my mommy place for the entire day. I love to laze there, she will cook me all the meals & what I need to do is eat & sleep.

However I decided to bring her out for lunch & visit the Singapore Garden Festival instead on Friday.

I knew mom loves flowers & definitely she'll like the place.

The exhibition consist of 2 levels. Level 6 will be the main attraction area where all the award winning garden arrangements were shown. Here are just some of nice flowers.

There are many food bloggers around & so you wouldn't see me blogging much on food anyway. However I don't deny the fact that I love food although I am very choosy on what I eat.

Last Sunday 21st July, its the actual day for my mother in law birthday. Over the last couple of years, normally we go to some restaurant. This year we decided to do something different.
Buffet...

Well normally on dinner there will be dishes serve to us & we eat. I thought of getting buffet is because the boys are all grown up & I think they will like it.

Moreover I know my father in law also likes to eat, but he eats very fast. Maybe its a man thing.
We all went to the Fairmont Hotel (its Raffles The Plaza la..) they have change name recently...
The restaurant name is the Plaza Market Cafe & it serve Peranakan as main with also cold cuts like oyster, sashimi, prawns & other shell fishes.

Yesterday during dinner we had this discussion on if Nick Heidfeld is to win this coming weekend Hockenheim F1 Race, he will become a National Hero just like Lewis Hamilton winning in Silverstone fortnight ago.

See Nick Heidfeld being a German & driving in a German Nationality Team - BMW Sauber will have Germany's National anthem to be played on the podium if he comes in 1st.
We shall see what comes...

Back to the topic on National Anthem, we then start discussing the teams & the National to be played if their drivers got into 1st on Podium..

Well the obvious are the Ferrari where we always hear the Italians singing their lungs out when either one of their drivers are on the Podium, then we have God Save the Queen of England. We heard something different during the Canadian Grand Prix where Robert Kubica won. A Poland & German national anthem was played.

Then here comes my questions to him.

Jo: Constructor's Toyota & Honda which country national anthem to be played?
Eric: Japan!
Jo: But they are base in UK wor..
Eric: Eh.. Still Japan!

Jo: Force India (hahaha)...
Eric: Where else India la (with a slight shake of head)

Eric: Hmmm.. UK??? I think so.. they are base there
Jo: Yes.. (Skeptical)

Last Saturday I went to Terminal 3 for lunch because I need to pick up from Brother who is flying back from Tel Aviv. There are many food joints there & we decided on to this fast food place - Popeyes.

Popeyes is a fried chicken outlet. Most of my friends knows that I am a Chicken-tarian. hahaha.. My main meat intake is chicken because I does not take beef nor mutton. Pork is minimal for me as well.

After finishing the meal & enjoying my drink. A group of 3s came & sat beside us. The male of the threesome went to get their meal & came back with their feast.

Before they start, they are discussing or deliberating about something. One said, "ok ok I will say it but mine is very simple..." I went quite puzzle & listen on...

Then there are some quiet whispers.. Later I realized they are saying their grace...

Immediately I stare at my pile of chicken bones & mumble to myself as well.
"Thank you chicken for growing to be so fat so as I can eat you to fulfill my craving for today. You are so delicious"

My husband sitting in front me sigh & shake his head in dismay. He is a Christian by the way... HAHAHA.

I am soooo bad :D

Our Pit Building is UP!

Few weeks ago, you may have seen some of my posted pics on the pit building that had been build by the Marina Bay waterfront area.

After doing some addition touch ups, our Permanent Pit Building had completed.

Singapore Completes Pit Building for World's First F1 Night Race
SINGAPORE - Singapore on Friday marked the completion of the pit building "nerve centre" for the world's first Formula One Grand Prix night race, officials said.

Built in about 10 months on Singapore's waterfront, the three-storey pit building will hold 36 garages for the race teams, race control facilities, a media centre, winners' podium and club for about 4,000 people, the Singapore Tourism Board said in a joint statement with race promoters.

"The pit building will serve as the nerve centre for the race," Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry, S Iswaran, said in a speech marking the S$40 million building's completion.

Singapore's first Grand Prix street circuit race on September 28 will also be the sport's first night race.

Last Sunday 6th July 2008 was a very busy day for Sports fanatics especially those in England.

At the same day, 2 very big was happening there.

Formula 1 British Grand Prix @ Silverstone. Wimbledon Mans' Single Final.

We are all giggling behind for those celebrities where they must be in a dilemma which event they shall attend to grab to the most attention.

By now you should have known the results for these 2 event.

Lewis Hamilton (a Briton) won the Grand Prix in front of his home cheering crowd.

Rafael Nadal after fighting for 4 h 48 mins, beated Roger Federer by 6-4, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-7 (8-10), 9-7.

So much of the results... Do you see a resemblance of both trophies?!?!?!?! Do you think they look similar? Do you realize all trophies awarded in England all looks almost the same? I wonder.... hahaha!!!!

I didn't watch today's qualifying for Silverstone British Grand Prix as its our Wedding anniversary cum Eric birthday cum Ruiqin baby's shower in the evening. Out for celebration.

Due to the Wimbledon Tennis Championship having the priority time slot at Star Sports, hence the repeat if qualifying is gonna be at 2:00am. Most likely I will be zzzz by then :)

So logging onto BBC Sports Update, I am half expecting the see the usual qualifying results of either Ferrari or BMW or McLaren clinching pole this week end.

To my greatest surprise its a McLaren not Lewis but sweet Heikki Kovalainen is on Pole. Second in place is Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing & followed Ice Man Kimi Raikkonen.

I am beginning to like this season.. No more domineering of races between the McLaren & the Ferrari.

A women's weakness - Shoes

I love to buy shoes. I enjoy buying shoes. I can't help myself on having a weakness for shoes.

Last weekend, we went to Central Mall for dinner. After the meal, Eric says he needs to go the bathroom. "Big Business" ... My eyes blinks with excitement. Not his business but I knew I had at least 10 mins to roam around.

As usual I quickly took an escalator to level 3, turn a few corners & found my favourite boutique. Its a small little boutique which sells some very interesting & nice clothes & SHOES....

I have been eyeing on their shoes for a long long long time. However I just can't bring myself to buy a pair as its Not Cheap... & also Eric will nag at me as usual on buying shoes Again.

Knowing I have some time, I went into the store, try a few pairs & got my eyes caught by this.

Fell in love with this immediately. Both sides are not identicle. The sole writes...
"Love is One Kiss, Two Kisses, Three Kisses, Four Kisses, Five Kisses, Six Kisses..."
So sweet.

These were the poses during photo taking on the podium at the end of the race. Most of the time it will start with the play of National Anthem of the winning driver & constructor followed by the trophy giving ceremony.

Last weekend on the Formula 1 Grand Prix De France - Magny Cours, although the entire race was dominated by the Ferrari & eventually they won 1 & 2. The Toyota team did a very race a well.

Jarno Trulli took the first podium for this season & all of us can tell he is a very happy man.

If you notice, in normal photo taking all winners will put down their trophies, gives a winning wave & say cheese.
Jarno actually carried the champaign & his trophy all the way.
In his mind, probably he must be thinking - Better soak in as much as this moment as possible where these kind of atmosphere is hard to come by...

Couple of weeks back I've gotten my mom to cook for me where I have inviting some friends from Penang to come over to my place for dinner.

It was rather a tiring day where at noon I am already at her place doing food tasting & helping her to prepare the feast for the night.

Definitely the meal was yummy & I always loves my mom's cooking. I am so fortunate to have such a wonderful mom.

However I didn't realize this meal had cause some mouth watering gastronomy well comments from some friends where they saw it on Facebook.

It is really amazing how much one can do in here. You can have a pet dog (I have mine - a Labrador retriever call Cadbury); sent flowers, sent bags; sent eggs; play scrabble; play warlords; etc... etc...

There are really whole lots of things you can find there. Moreover you can also post pictures or videos of yourself or others.

LONDON (Reuters) - Should you reject a friend on MySpace? How do you ward off an old lover on Facebook?

Have no fear. Britain's etiquette bible has come to the rescue for social networkers who are at a loss about how to behave with online decorum.

Debrett's have helped to compile a new set of "golden rules" for devotees of sites like Facebook and Bebo.

The rules were put together after research by the telecoms company Orange showed that almost two thirds of social networkers are frustrated and confused by online etiquette.

It discovered that more than a quarter were uncertain about how to respond to unwelcome "pokes" or messages.

Eighteen percent confessed to being confused on "how to respond to my ex when in a relationship with someone else."

Debrett's etiquette adviser Jo Bryant tried to guide the confused through what can be a social minefield.

Acknowledging that social networking has made new demands on traditional etiquette, she said "My advice is to play it safe and always employ your usual good manners when online, treating others with kindness and respect."

And you should never throw caution to the wind.

Mark Watt-Jones, head of development and innovation at Orange, said "Whether you are checking your Facebook profile or posting photos of friends on MySpace at work, these guidelines will ensure you never lose old friends or make unwanted new ones."

The golden rules compiled by Debrett's with Orange are:

1. You don't have to make friends with people you don't know. Think before you poke.

2. Wait 24 hours before accepting or removing someone as a friend. The delay will help you gather your thoughts.

3. Birthdays, engagements and weddings are not "virtual" events. Always send cards or phone friends when there is an important event.

4. Think before posting a friend's photo what you would feel like if it was you.

5. Think carefully about your profile picture. Would you want it to be appearing in your local newspaper?

Pepsi Commercial - Soccer Stars

The other day when I am at the cinema, this particular commercial caught my attention.

Not that I am a super duper soccer fan (although my husband is a die hard Chelsea fan), but I am just amaze with the plot of the commercial where they had fans telling their view of the story. Having all the famous Soccer players acting it out was just superb. By the way this is also for the Euro 2008.

Following viewing this, I vaguely recall over the past years Pepsi had been producing multiple Soccer players whom they have sponsored.

In preparation of the Singapore F1 Race

Last Friday I had a chance to board the Singapore Flyer located at the Marina Bay area. It was really a breath taking sight having to view the Central Business district & the southern islands in the capsule while the Flyer rotates.

However what captivates me the most was, I am able to catch a glimpse of the construction for the Pit Stop Garages. Yes, I am not kidding, we are building permanent Pit Stop Garages.

This is the view from the top. As construction is still on going, so its not totally completed yet. But you can see, the roads are well paved.

黎沸挥 - 在世界放光芒20年作品知己演唱会

Last Saturday we went to watch his concert @ the Esplanade. Before we enter the concert hall, as usual I will go to the bathroom as we had dinner before heading towards there. When about to enter to the hall, the user very concern-ly told us "This concert NO interval, go to the bathroom 1st hor"?!?!?!?

We went ?!?!?! why is he so concern. We thought, how long can the concert be, at a minimum of 2hrs & max + encore will be the most 3hrs.

To our GREATEST surprise.. the concert kept on going & going & going.... After unsure number singers had sang & finally 黎沸挥 bid goodbye.. Its almost 11:45PM. By the way, concert started @ 7:30PM.

黎沸挥等20年开唱巫启贤、梁智强放笑弹喧宾夺主

黎沸挥自爆他邀请嘉宾时，每个嘉宾都说是被他一句“一个歌手有多少个20年啊”所打动。前晚在演唱会现场，当每个嘉宾上台开口一提“20年”，观众便有默契的笑出来，后来黎沸挥越来越不好意思，开始否认：“我有这么说过吗？”

20年，如果能换来如此多好歌，红了自己，也红了别人，黎沸挥，没什么不好意思的！

前晚是本地资深音乐人黎沸挥的“在世界放光芒20年作品知己演唱会”，结果表演嘉宾巫启贤演唱的歌曲总数跟他“差不多”，还有“意外嘉宾”梁智强简短亮相大放笑弹，梁文福也赏脸上台伴奏，把气氛推上高潮。这真是“喧宾夺主”的一场演唱会！

黎沸挥除了开场独唱4首后，便把时间交给曾经演唱他的作品的嘉宾和他的学生。压轴的巫启贤大唱7首歌，黎沸挥“气”得说：“自己唱得很少，‘知己’唱得很多！”

巫启贤演唱黎沸挥创作的《太阳眼镜》、《再一次恋爱》、《啤酒周围的故事》，都是20年前流行一时的劲歌。巫启贤更笑说《等你等到我心痛》让黎沸挥在新马唱红，他在台湾唱红，张学友在香港唱红，歌迷则买唱片买到心痛，更赞说一首歌把3个歌手捧红不容易，也让黎沸挥赚到两栋房子。

两人接着合唱《等》，舞台上也映出10多年前两人合唱同一首歌的幻灯片，两相对照，从发型、穿着到样貌的改变，使观众对岁月有深长体会。

因为有20年的交情，看黎沸挥与巫启贤在台上互激互捧互踩互赞互弹，往事幽默重提，几乎到了“不设防”境界，可比拟台湾演艺界大哥半演半真的类似交流，让人笑出眼泪。巫启贤几乎比在自己的演唱会或主人家黎沸挥还“high”，金口妙句炒足气氛。结果这场演唱会超时近一小时，长达四小时。

梁智强、梁文福给足面子

梁智强的出现让人意外，原来他当年出过饶舌专辑，里面有首《选美赛》及综艺节目《搞笑行动》主题曲是黎沸挥所作，然后他以黎的旧曲改以新词，顺口讽刺逃马、通货膨胀、爱国歌曲语言歧视等时弊，并把《等你等到我心痛》变成《找你找到我心痛》送给部长，也让全场报以热烈掌声。

形象斯文的梁文福给足老友面子，上台伴奏，他替黎沸挥的曲填词，早年由巫启贤演唱的《一个像我这样那个的男子》，促成记者记忆中3人首度同台表演，也是经典画面。

最红的歌曲原唱者未出席

黎沸挥早年以歌手身份出发，中途退居幕后为主，他所作的歌曲当中，别人唱红至少占一半，所以这次的20年纪念演唱会，自己退居幕后，演唱歌曲只占全场四分之一。

这样的安排可表现出他的创作人身份，可惜许多唱红他的作品的原唱者如张学友、刘德华、张信哲、伍思凯、陈晓东等都没到，而赏脸演出的好友如关德辉、巫启雄、洪劭轩、潘盈等所唱的黎沸挥创作，却不是最流行的那些歌曲，因此中间一大段时间近乎冷场。

刚生产6个月的台湾歌手彭佳慧可说是最有心的“本地音乐人之友”，她继前年为李伟菘、偲菘纪念演唱会之后，再当嘉宾，她演唱两首黎沸挥的歌好听但也非观众所熟悉，等她展开肺活量唱出代表作《敲敲我的头》和《旧梦》，才把气氛推高，可惜这两首并不是黎沸挥的创作。

毒舌评审·严厉制作人

近年在电视实况歌唱比赛中以“毒舌”闻名的黎沸挥，演唱会中不时重提当年幕后趣事，把观众带回记忆，许多笑料备觉温馨。

黎沸挥当年出道坎坷，幸有早一点的出道的巫启贤“救济”，把穿过不留的打歌服送给他平日穿着。有一次，黎沸挥到台湾宣传，配合后台播放卡带对嘴演唱，谁知半途音响系统吃带，黎沸挥模仿工作人员误按“快速向前”钮后系统发出的“怪声”，自嘲比林俊杰更早懂得表演“口技”。

黎沸挥当制作人时在录音室的严厉，经多名歌手“认证”更显真实。他不但曾骂哭关德辉，有一次拿木棍进录音室要堵门，却让关德辉误会他要打人，惊吓得后退几步。

黎沸挥也澄清《等你等到我心痛》并非如巫启贤所说，是在打麻将时等“万条筒子”时有感而作，乃是源自于钓鱼时的心情。

By now you have read & hear many news or write ups for the recent Cyclone Nargis hits Myanmar badly which lead the country to a devastating stage.

Just last week end, although there weren't any cyclone that hit my neighborhood, the rain & thunder did causes some damage.

It was like 3.34AM on Saturday 10th May. I was woken up by the huge storm with extremely loud thunder. The thunder were not just a single bang & dies down, it actually sounds non stop for almost more than an hour.

The next morning when I woke up, my husband told me there was a fallen tree & it hit a car.

Here was what I manage to capture from my kitchen window.

Today marks the end of the short era for Super Aguri Formula One Team. Since beginning of this season, there had been many rumors & facts regarding the financial crisis the team is facing.

Especially during the last Barcelona Race, the team also got pull out due to the lack of funds. However just 3 days before the race, with additional backings , Takuma Sato & Anthony Davidson did their show for this season.

Takuma Sato came in 13 for Spain which is the best result throughout the past 4 races in Bahrain, Malaysia & Australia.

Super Aguri Formula One Team has today announced its withdrawal from the 2008 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Participating in Formula One since the 2006 season, the team, which scored its first championship points after only 22 races (Spanish Grand Prix, 2007) and finished ninth overall in the 2007 Constructors’ Championship, will cease all activities as of 6th May 2008.

The Staff

Last Saturday, I went to watch the much acclaimed movie - The Forbidden Kingdom starring Jet Li & Jackie Chan. In the morning when I read the papers review on this movie for being rather crabby & no story line, I ponder... should not be that bad where the 2 most biggest stars in Chinese film making is the movie.

I was totally wrong. Movie was so so, story line was kinda ?!?!?! where it feature legends like the Monkey King 孙悟空 (Jet Li) & the Drunken Immortal (Jackie Chan) together.

Other then hearing funny English cum Chinese conversation struggling between the both, I cannot stop laughing at the scene where the Jade Emperor speaks awkward English as well!

As their English were not fluent, I tend the read some of the subtitles pretty often. One word that makes me chuckles & intrigue was "The Staff".

What is this? It actually refers to the magical rod 孙悟空 carries around. I went huh???? Isn't staff = people. What has it got to with a rod. I wanted to find out more & this is what I had.

From Dictionary.com Staff is
1. a group of persons, as employees, charged with carrying out the work of an establishment or executing some undertaking.
2. a stick, pole, or rod for aid in walking or climbing, for use as a weapon, etc.
3. a rod or wand serving as a symbol of office or authority, as a cozier, baton, truncheon, or mace.

*Giggles* so the Almighty rod the Abbot carries is also calls a staff.

Wondering whether did the movie uses a wrong word, I went further to check in Wikipedia.

His primary weapon is the rúyì-jīngū-bàng ("will-following golden-banded staff"), which he can shrink down to the size of a needle and keep behind his ear, as well as expand it to gigantic proportions (hence the "will-following" part of the name). The staff, originally a pillar supporting the undersea palace of the East Sea Dragon King, weighs 13,500 pounds, which he pulled out of its support and swung with ease.

Ok... Ok.. I learnt something new today.

Late last month, in the hot & sunny Penang Island, other then the almost dieing down election fever rumbling in the city, there was another joyous event being celebrated.

It the wedding of our colleagues Ai Wah & Alex. There were already many blogs in the WW space blogging in celebration of their wedding, however I will like to share another aspect of this occasion as well.

Understanding the from the Best Man, he was chosen to be the best of 3 man like < 48 hours before the actual day. The reason given was, the rest of the 2 cannot be the Best man because 1 is married & the other one is taller then the groom.

No implying the groom is short eh....

I really can't stop myself laughing looking at these pictures. Do you really think is sooooooo boring to be a BEST MAN?!?!?!?!?

This post has nothing in relation to politics. In today's news it caught me in surprise where the Australia Prime Minister - Kevin Rudd can speak Mandarin so well!

The first thing I got Eric to watch - why?? Because his mandarin is horrible! The way he speaks just like he had never been through 6 years of Primary & 5 years of Secondary education in Singapore. But anyway...

Did you get fooled last week? Today during lunch, I heard this vicious April Fool's joke told to me regarding "Some one" and "Some guy".

Apparently the naughty played a serious work joke to both "Some one" and "Some guy". Both "Some one" and "Some guy" fell for it & got really mad when heard about its a April Fool's joke. At the end both "Some one" and "Some guy" threaten the Naughty on his next trip to Singapore, both "Some one" and "Some guy" will make the Naughty so damn drunk at Holland Village & will dump him by the phone booth. hahaha!!!

So much about some one, some guy & the naughty. The best joke I have seen this year is from BBC - The Flying Penguin.

Wisma's fish to get new home

Following my post on "Do you remember" in commentating the going of the Fish tank @ Wisma Atria, below is another write up from MyPaper regarding this Fishy relocation.

AFTER delighting countless babies and fascinating streams of passing shoppers and tourists for two decades, Wisma Atria's iconic fish tank will be removed.

More than 100 fish from the 20-cubic-metre tank will be moved to the Underwater World Singapore at 9am next Wednesday.

The 1.5-metre tall tank at Wisma's basement has been home to hundreds of fish spanning 12 different species since it was built in 1986, when the mall was first opened.

The move, according to Ms Amy Lim, general manager of Macquarie Pacific Star Property Management which owns the mall, is to allow the marine life to continue to thrive in a bigger andmore natural aquatic ecosystem at the oceanarium.

"We are delighted to have found a good home for the fish. While the aquarium has brought much cheer to customers at Wisma Atria over the years, we have decided to use the space to enhance the retail offering in Wisma Atria," she said.

The company declined to provide more details on future plans for the space. Underwater World Singapore's general manager Mr Kwek Meng Tiam said that the fish would be introduced to their new home with arms wide open: "Together with their 2,500 relatives here, we warmly welcome them as part of our big family."

But most shoppers my paper interviewed were reluctant to see the fish tank go.

University student Stefanie Tung, 19, said the tank reminded her of shopping trips with her mother when she was a toddler.

"The fish will probably get better care but it's such a pity. I can't visualise anything else in its place," she said.

Receptionist Ms Hani Kader, 36, said it was a popular landmark for meeting friends when she was a teenager.

Now, she brings her one-year-old son Reezwan Mas Junaidi to view the fish at least once a fortnight.

Pointing out the fish to Reezwan while the duo were taking a mid-shopping break on Wednesday afternoon, Ms Hani said: "It's too bad it won't be here when he's a teenager."

One jewellery store salesgirl at the basement level,Miss Liew Ziling, 22, has even personally christened one fish within the tank "Ah Or" for its deep black colour.

Said Miss Liew, who has been working at the mall for five years: "Must they really move the fish tank? Can you tell them not to?"

To mark the big move, Wisma Atria has lined up a week-long promotion for aquarium fans and shoppers to bid their farewells.

Shoppers can send in their fondest memories of the aquarium.

Those with the most moving stories and pictures stand to win limited edition Fish Series stamp sets and tickets to the Underwater World Singapore.

A photography station will also be set up for shoppers to take their final photographs with the aquarium fish this weekend.

Do you remember

It was such a hype when Wisma Atria opens in 1986 where it straight away became one of the most happening shopping mall situation right at the start of Orchard Road.

On top of this, one of the most selling point of this mall is not only wide available ranges of shops ranging from fashion to day to day necessities like tooth brushes. Also at the basement is their well acclaim fish tank.

This is a circular fish tank which surround itself around the lift shank of the building lift. Trust me this fish tank has really become a landmark in Wisma & even in Orchard. How many times this fish tank has become a meeting point for many people. Of course me as well.

However things evolves & develops, catching the enbloc fever the fishes & tank cannot escape this fate of relocation.

Catch a glimpse this week end before it goes away.

My in laws

I am really glad having such wonderful parents who adores me. Back home when I am with my mom, she will cook anything I want to eat. She will get anything I've requested her to buy if I do not have the expertise or time to do it. My dad will (being dad) will not show that much of love towards his children, but we know he does care ALOT.

On top of these pampering parents, I am also very fortunate & bless to have very good/loving in laws as well.

No doubt I may talk as much to them like to my parent, I knew they does care for me especially when I am not well.

Have not been posting pictures for a while. Let me introduce my the other side of the family.

I read this article the other day from AsiaOne & I can't help giggling over the it. Telling you thr truth, writing it short; writing it simple; writing it concise has almost becomes or rules how we actually write these days.

Tell me something, have you ever sms to some one? Yes? Of course you do! But wouldn't it be cumbersome to write in full sentence, word by word. Yes! Or writing it on short forms where the other party can understands. The later rules...

On top of this, writing on IM (Instant Messaging) on Yahoo, MSN, Skype etc... has also become part & parcel in our day to day work too. Who bothers to write a full sentence of "Can you please help me to request something .... " To write it short, it becomes " Can u pls ...."

If you can translate this string of symbols into a grammatically correct English sentence, you have probably never lived without air-conditioning, and have no clue who Pat Boon (a singer) is.

You, pal, are part of the millennium generation - people born from the mid-1980s till now.

For the uninitiated, the above reads: "Girlfriend, see you later at Starbucks, okay?"

It is such new-generation IT lingo that has spawned Transl8it.com, a site that makes sense of text-messaging slang, converting them into proper English. And codes normal English words into text-messaging gibberish.

For one, the site has managed to translate - or destroy - poetry from Elizabeth Barrett Browning in less than five seconds. "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways" has morphed to: "Ow do I luv thee? Lt mi count d ways".

Sort of takes the romance out of poetry, doesn't it?

But for many teenagers, using these symbols or abbreviations is second nature. (Yes, English teachers, shudder).

Once ghetto language, it was brought to the fore by advertisements.

And in Internetville, the Whassup greeting has morphed into the shorter snappier version of "Sup". Meaning "hello" or "how are you?", Sup is used in text messages or online chat rooms as a form of friendly "Hi".

» Slang No. 2: Srsly

A bastardised version of the term "seriously", and often used by teenagers who are just too lazy to type the word out in full. So, srsly simply means "really". Most teens attach the word at the end of a claim for effect.

Like so: "That latest hit single from R&B babe Rihanna is da bomb. Srsly."

» Slang No. 3: TMTH

Fans who caught every episode of American Idol Season 7 would have heard this slang by now - TMTH or Too Much To Handle. Contestant Danny Noriega said it after judge Simon Cowell made a caustic remark on one of his performances during the semi-finals. TMTH usually refers to an event that makes you wish the earth would swallow you up.

Like so: "My friends pushed me down the stairs in front of the entire student body. That was just so TMTH."

» Slang No. 4: Fo Sho

This term drips from the lips of youths togged out in low-rise baggy jeans, baseball shirts and a whole lot of neck-tangling bling."Fo Sho" is a term found in the hip-hop dictionary, and it simply means "definitely" or "certainly".

Like so: "Yo, u beach partyin' tonight?" "Fo sho!"

» Slang No. 5: PIR

Every parent should know this lingo. It stands for Parents In Room, the alert that teenagers use to warn their friends to stop an online chat, or to quickly change a conversation topic (probably indecent or illegal). Such as when he's is planning to cut class. Variations include: POS (Parents Over Shoulder), PAL (Parents are listening) and P911 (Parents Alert).

Like so: "PAL - I really enjoy my mathematics lessons, I can't wait to go to school every day!"

» Slang No. 6: Fly

The words "cool" and "happening" are so not "fly" anymore. The term originated from hip-hoppin' rappers who used it in the American ghettos.

Like so: "Saw the car that David was driving? New tires, polished ports and oversized turbos! Totally fly."

» Slang No. 7: Subprime

For businessmen and market analysts, subprime refers to the act of lending money to borrowers who do not have the means to return the cash. Youths understand it as "substandard" or "lacklustre".

Like so: "The service standard of that clothing store - subprime, man! Don't buy anything from that shop ever again!"

Dogs Poisoned to slow & cruel death

This article was posted at our block lift area. I am very sadden reading this & cannot imagine why there are such people living within my quiet vicinity.

Frankly Sunset Way is rather a animal caring neighborhood. We have people here who feed the community cats daily (just like me), provide shelters to stray dogs & none but not least there are 3 vets & 4 shops selling pets related food or stuff.

As of today, Rajah still roams around freely but he is very human shy due to what has happen to his family. I've personally saw the family of dogs roaming around our area, they did not bother the neighbors.

STOMPer Choo says it is time we speak up for animals, which should protected and loved, just like us.

He sent us photos from an SPCA ad about two dogs, Shiloh and Shelly, which were found dead on Feb 13 near the forest in front of Block 118 Clementi Street 13.

According to the ad, the body of the third dod , Blackie, cannot be found. All the dogs were suspected to be have been poisoned between Feb 11 and Feb 11.

It says that only one dog, Rajah, survived the ordeal. The town council and the AVA has agreed to let SPCA volunteers catch and rehome Rajah.

Every year I will not miss watching the Victoria Secret Fashion Show. Not that I the beautiful models walking on the stage, its really the glamorous style of how the entire program is being put together.

Of course and not least I love the beauty of Victoria's Secret lingeries. They are so so so pretty and I will definitely visit the boutique whenever I am in the States.

Last week the entire nation's security forces went berserk because of the escape of a detainee for terrorist act 2 years ago.

The Army, The Police, The Special Tasks Force, The Civil Defense, Ministers of Parliament, The Public etc.. are all in high alert.

The Next Leap Year is 2008

Leap Year has been the traditional time that women can propose marriage. In many of today's cultures, it is okay for a woman to propose marriage to a man. Society doesn't look down on such women. However, that hasn't always been the case. When the rules of courtship were stricter, women were only allowed to pop the question on one day every four years. That day was February 29th.

St. Bridget's Complaint

It is believed this tradition was started in 5th century Ireland when St. Bridget complained to St. Patrick about women having to wait for so long for a man to propose. According to legend, St. Patrick said the yearning females could propose on this one day in February during the leap year.

February 29th in English Law

According to English law, February 29th was ignored and had no legal status. Folks assumed that traditions would also have no status on that day. It was also reasoned that since the leap year day existed to fix a problem in the calendar, it could also be used to fix an old and unjust custom that only let men propose marriage.

The first documentation of this practice dates back to 1288, when Scotland passed a law that allowed women to propose marriage to the man of their choice in that year. They also made it law that any man who declined a proposal in a leap year must pay a fine. The fine could range from a kiss to payment for a silk dress or a pair of gloves.

Sadie Hawkins Day

In the United States, some people have referred to this date as Sadie Hawkins Day with women being given the right to run after unmarried men to propose.

Sadie Hawkins was a female character in the Al Capp cartoon strip Li'l Abner. Many communities prefer to celebrate Sadie Hawkins Day in November which is when Al Capp first mentioned Sadie Hawkins Day.

Greek Superstition

There is a Greek superstition that claims couples have bad luck if they marry during a leap year. Apparently one in five engaged couples in Greece will avoid planning their wedding during a leap year.

Today the ENTIRE Singapore Celebrates being the First Hosting Nation to hold the Inaugural Youth Olympics in 2010!

SINGAPORE - Singapore erupted in celebration on Thursday after winning the right to host the inaugural Youth Olympics in 2010, with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong calling it a new era for Southeast Asian sport.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) awarded the Games to the city-state ahead of Moscow by a vote of 53 to 44. It will be the first time that Singapore is hosting a multi-disciplinary sporting event of such a magnitude.

"Friends and fellow Singaporeans, congratulations to all of us," said Mr Lee in front of thousands of cheering supporters wearing red and white, the colours of the national flag.

"It is a great honour and privilege for all of us. It will be the first time that the Olympic flame will be in Southeast Asia and in Singapore.

"We will be the focus of a new era for sporting development for Southeast Asia and Singapore. We worked very hard, it was a national effort, but more than that it was a people effort."

Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth, and Sports, called it "an historic day".

"By choosing Singapore, the IOC has declared that it is possible for small young cities like Singapore to host the Olympic movement," he said.

"On Friday, the hard work begins. I know we will succeed because every Singaporean will go all out to welcome the youth of the world to Singapore in 2010."

Moscow had Russian President Vladimir Putin in its corner, far deeper pockets than Singapore in terms of budget, and long-standing ties with the IOC on its side. But Singapore played its size-is-not-everything card to perfection.

A huge buzz has been generated among Singaporeans, with people from all backgrounds in the nation of 4.5 million people supporting the bid.

Online, they have shown their backing by blogging, chatting on forums, posting videos and setting up websites. And more than 550 companies publicly backed the bid.

The brainchild of IOC chief Jacques Rogge, the Youth Olympics will feature traditional sports such as athletics and swimming, and also some innovative events such as beach-wrestling and BMX bike riding.

Rogge made the announcement himself from the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, ending a process that originally started with nine cities in contention. This was whittled down to Athens, Bangkok, Turin, Singapore and Moscow before it became a two-horse race.

"This is a key moment for the Olympic movement," said Rogge. "Singapore has put together a very exciting project. Hosting the Youth Olympic Games for the first time is a great responsibility, and I have every confidence in the team in Singapore.

"I have no doubt that their professionalism and enthusiasm will be instrumental in the staging of a successful Youth Olympic Games in 2010."

The Games will see 3,500 athletes, aged between 14 and 18, competing in 26 sports.

Singapore is proposing 24 venues, with four being built as temporary facilities, including one large cluster of 13 facilities in its Marina-Kallang area.

The Youth Olympic Village will be located at a new multi-million-dollar student residential complex at the National University of Singapore, slated for completion months before the event.

Singapore is budgeting US$75.5 million to run the Olympics, covering everything from educational and cultural programmes to development of services and transport. The Games will run from August 14-16.

Cell Phones... Cell Phones... Choices... Choices...

Sigh... My 5 months old Motorola V3xx starts to give me problems.
1. Lately the battery life seems to get shorter & shorter. I have to charge it like every other day.
2. SMS function seems to be quirky. Sometimes I can't even write a letter where it just gets hung. Needs reboot to get it function again.
3. Because this phone does not comes with a daily alarm scheduling feature, I have to set my wake up call in the calendar. Since I am not driving any more, so sometimes I have to wake up real early in the morning to catch a bus & train to work. Sometimes I can hitch a ride with my neighbour & so I don't need to wake up that early.
4. Etc.. There are too many...

So comes May this year, I am able to upgrade my line by having to tie myself for another 2 years with M1. Which means I can rather good deals for the mobiles.

What should I go for next? Made couple of web searching & these are the few which I think is not bad.

Singtel Singapore Grand Prix... Here I come

After many days of trying via the official website for 2008 F1 Singtel Singapore Grand Prix to get hold a of 3 day pass... I GAVE UP.

The server either went down or unavailable or unable to process my tickets after clicking up till step no. 6 or for whatever reason it just hung there... I went almost berserk.

In today's papers, there were huge advertisement from the Race & ticketing sponsor saying "WE ARE SORRY", but that does not even ease the server retarded nature.

Being a typical Singaporean & afraid can't secure the First Singapore Night Race ticket, I called the Ticketing HOTLINE @ +65 6738 6738.

The line got through within seconds. No complicated steps like press 1 for blah, press 2 for blah blah, etc.. Just a press to get to ticketing & I got attended by a sales officer within 2 kroos.

He greeted & I told him what I want. He says the block was fully & suggested a different block. My seats were selected & the transaction got completed within minuets.

I am so happy & can't wait till September when I embrace the roar of the F1 engines right to ears & not via the TV screen.

My last blab was almost 2 months ago in Nov 07. Been busy doing bleh stuff & didn't have time to think much about what to blab about.

Today I looked at the celendar & OH NO!!!! its already mid of January. I have almost < 3 weeks to prepare for Chinese New Year (CNY for short)!!

Geeze while I am writing here, all the things to do start swarming into my head. There seems like thousand & one things out there which require me to lay my hands on.

See CNY is really "The Next Big Thing" amongst our family. Throughout the years I have mommy dearest to take care of everything under the sun. Now is only Joanne & me. *Sob* *Sob* *Sob*

Where should I start?!?!?!

Buy Goodies for visitors
Buy mandarin oranges
Clean up the house
Dust off the 1 year old dust & cob webs on my window pane. Damn I have 17 panes of windows to clean!
Wash & change the curtains
Change my bed sheet
Clean my gate & put up the decorations
Need to do the math again how many Ang Pows & how much of new currencies shall I need to change from the bank
Need to get new Ang Pows which represent the year of the Rat
Need to give my Dad, my Mom, my Uncle, my Mother in Law & my Father in Law some $$ for them to kick start their preparations
Need to get the haye on my head done with something

My Fostering Youths From Malaysia & Brunei

You may have read in one of my early blog post where yearly Eric & I will participate in this SSEAYP (Ship for South East Asia Youth Program). In short this program actually sails youths from SEA countries + Japan around the region.

Its the time of the year again where this time round we have 2 nice gals from Malaysia (KL) & Brunei.

In their short 3 days stay with us, we do really enjoy ourselves much & too bad next year Nippon Maru is not sailing to Singapore as Pit Stop.

We start off the day with breakfast at Yakun

As both of our gals are Buddhist & so happen that day was 初一 from the Chinese lunar calendar, with lots of bravery I brought them to 四马路观音庙. The human traffic were intense. We managed to make our prayers & leave within 30mins.

Straight after this, we head down to URA Centre to view the exhibition of the Singapore City Gallery.

How can visiting Singapore without seeing Merlion & Singapore River.

Next we headed to the Esplanade where its just a stone throw away. While we are taking a stroll down to City Link, there were exhibits of children art along.

Lastly we end our day visiting the Indoor Stadium.

The next day its time for them to board back the ship to sail to the next destination. How can they leave Singapore without trying our famous chicken rice.

Well its really sad to bid farewell but I am happy to learn much from them.

Fruit Beer Party

Long long time ago... 3 or 4 (don't know whether the young man went that night) ole man were doing their usual rounds in Brewerkz.

Its a yearly routine for the "Ang Moh" whom turn Singaporean this year (YES!!!) running a half Marathon during the yearly event of Singapore Marathon. But for the other older man... he only started joining the Marathon a year back running 10KM.

After some booze & maybe lots of booze, the bet evolves...

Larry: " Hock Leng, if you can run half Marathon this year.. I shall drink a jug of Fruit Beer!"
Hock Leng: " *Slight Ponder* OK!!! I show you!!! HAHAHA!!!!"

Months past, all the training did well. The results for both Larry & Hock Leng turns out good.

These days the in thing is Street Magic. What is Street Magic? These illusionist will perform magic on the streets with life audience or passers by seeing the entire trick happening. What is so captivating about Street Magic is, you are unable to see any loopholes. Common street magic shown on TV are card tricks, coin tricks or even fire tricks.

Michael Schumacher races in a Taxi

On the verge of missing a flight, seven-time F1 Champion Michael Schumacher jumped behind the wheel of a taxi and arrived in time at the airport with his family, according to a report emanating from AFP.

Taxi driver Tuncer Yilmaz, interviewed by daily Munich newspaper Abendzeitung, said Schumacher asked him if he could drive the car himself. The now-consultant at Ferrari was accompanied by his wife and two children.

"I found myself sitting in the passenger seat with Schumi at my side. It was incredible," explained Yilmaz.

"He made incredible passes and drove at high speed through the curves," added the taxi driver, who was granted a good tip in addition to his fare.

The report was confirmed to German sports news agency SID by Sabine Kehm, Schumacher's spokeswoman.

She explained that the Schumacher family landed at an airport in Coburg, in central Germany, to take delivery of a dog from a breeder located in a nearby village.

The Golden Compass

Guess this Dec the movie to watch for is The Golden Compass.

In fact before the movie starts, there have been many talks regarding this movie. Other then the big cast like Nicole Kidman & Daniel Craig, there were also huge moolahs that went into making the special effects on the movie.

For sure we know the armoured bear Iorek Byrnison is not real & the creation scenes on the snow are the blue screens, but no matter what it is the entire movie still captivates the majority.

However if you think after watching the movie you will walk away with a satisfaction of conclusion, sorry to mention now is no... This is just like "Lord of the Rings", its a Trilogy!

Not sure will it be every year a feed of the dose, its something nice worth the wait.

Christmas in Singapore

Last Saturday I brought my mom & nephew down to Orchard Road to view the lights display for Christmas.

First glance we can easily tell this year the theme is blue or purple, the streets are decorated with small little light bulbs which from far looks like diamonds hanging on trees. *Just illusions* though.
